S02E17: The Word I Kept Hearing

There's a word some of us have been quietly flinching at for years. Still. Still single. Still renting. Still figuring it out. It shows up in the mouths of people who mean well… an aunt at a baby shower, a mother on the phone, a coworker making small talk that isn't small at all. It sounds like nothing. It lands like a verdict.

Ashley is thirty-five, standing in a room full of pastel balloons and paper clouds, holding a onesie smaller than a potholder, when the word finds her again. By the end of the day she's back in her apartment with a box from her mother's attic: old report cards, a friendship bracelet, a folder covered in silver stars, and a decision to make about who gets to define an unfinished life.

This one's about the words that follow us into every room, and what happens when we finally stop letting them win.
